Health and Genetic Testing
Wild Acre Kennels does DNA genetic testing on all of Dams to ensure no genetic abnormalities are being passed down to offspring and the same testing is done on all studs we consider. When genetic testing is done, we look for results such as “Clear” or “Non-affected Carrier (autosomal recessive fashion)”, to help match breeding stock and it allows us to make ethical breeding decisions when it comes to who want to match together. As long as one dog is clear of mutation, a healthy breeding can happen. At Wild Acre Kennels, we use Paw Print Genetics for all of our genetic health testing.

Wild Acre Kennels strives to produce healthy puppies to be found free and clear of genetic diseases, but with that being said, it’s impossible to “breed out” hip/elbow dysplasia, cataracts etc. While we only breed dogs with passing scores, this does not mean further back in the pedigree line there wasn’t any health issues, again it’s impossible to breed out all health issues.
Studies show that hip/elbow dysplasia and other joint issues have a few main causes: genetics, hormones, over feeding, poor quality food and over exercise at a young age. Wild Acre Kennels does not cover hip/elbow dysplasia or other joint issues due to but not limited to: over-feeding, over-exercising, injuries, neglect, hormones, poor nutrition, etc. If you suspect a puppy purchased from Wild Acre Kennels is exhibiting signs of dysplasia, further testing needs to be performed before going forward with any replacements.
All puppies purchased from Wild Acre Kennels come with Limited AKC Registration. This means the dog is registered with restrictions so no offspring from that dog can be registered with AKC and you cannot breed the dog. We do this to ensure our breeding lines are protected and eliminate backyard breeding.
